iPod disk fragment caused OS X to crash
A few days ago, syncing my iPod with iTunes on a PowerMac G5 caused a system crash and required a power cycle. This was repro-always. I was able to connect the iPod to the Mac if iTunes wasn't running.
I posted a couple of questions to technical support and they did get back to me the second time.
The fix was to use Disk Utilities to see if the iPod had problems. Well, it did. It had a single bad fragment. Disk Utilities claimed to fix it - but each time the bad fragment reappeared.
So, I used the iPod Updater to restore the iPod to its factory settings. Then, Disk Utilities reported no fragments and iTunes began to synchronize just fine.
It's strange that a bad fragment in an iPod can cause iTunes to crash OS X and require a power cycle.

I thought Mac's didn't crash?!

My iPod regularly crashes and needs a power recycle. Would not recommend one.
